Admissions Criteria & Eligibility

Our courses are intended for students aged 15 and above, within two to three years of starting university. This typically corresponds to the final two years of secondary education— Years 11 and 12 in most countries, or sixth form in the UK.

Admission is subject to meeting the required academic level, which is assessed as part of our admissions procedure. Students must also demonstrate sufficient English skills, which are assessed through an English language proficiency test.

We encourage everyone who is interested to apply, regardless of their background, location, or previous academic experience. If appropriate, we may be able to help younger students prepare for A Level studies ahead of the usual timeline, including through intensive English-language tuition.

At Academeum we believe that every student with exceptional talent deserves a fair chance to reach their potential, regardless of financial circumstances. We are therefore proud to offer a limited number of academic scholarships to talented students who would otherwise not be able to benefit from our courses.

Our admissions process is completely transparent. You can learn more on the admissions page.

Course Format & Exam Options

A Levels are typically taken over two years. The first year is called AS Level, which, together with the second year, complete the A Level.

Each subject can be studied either as an AS Level (one year course) or A Level (over two years). For the purpose of university applications, students generally need a minimum of three A Levels in total.

There are a few options for exams, which add to the flexibility of the A Level course:

  1. AS Level only: Students take the AS Level exam at the end of the first year without progressing to the second.

  2. Full A Level in two stages: Students take AS Level exams in May/June of the first year and complete A Level exams at the end of the second year.

  3. Full A Level with all exams in the second year: Students take all exams in May/June of the second year, which is our recommended option.

  4. Exams in October/November: In some cases, we may suggest taking AS or A Level exams in an October/November session, depending on individual circumstances.

  5. Full A Level in one year (available from 2026-2027): An intensive one-year course covering both AS and A Level content.

  6. No exams at all: Students who don’t need a certified qualification have the option to study the curriculum purely for personal enrichment and intellectual growth.

Exam Arrangements & Results

Students enrolled in our courses are registered as 'private candidates' at official Cambridge International exam centers. With over 2,800 centers across 130 countries, we’ll help you find the most convenient location for taking exams.

Each subject is graded individually, and the certificate does not specify the where the exam was taken or how the student prepared for it.

Results are typically released a few weeks after the exams, with grades ranging from A* (highest) to E (minimum passing).

Cambridge International A Levels are widely recognized by universities around the world. Offers from universities are usually conditional, based on the attainment of specific grades in three or more A Level subjects relevant to the chosen course of study.

How Many A Levels Can Be Taken

Students applying to universities in the UK and US typically need three A Levels. Some apply to university with as many as five. The optimal number of A Levels depends on the student’s individual circumstances, goals, and capabilities.

Academeum welcomes students for single AS/A Levels and is equipped to support students studying up to five subjects, provided we are sure they can effectively manage the workload.

Students can optimize their study time and potentially increase the number of subjects they take by starting a year early or incorporating a gap year into their academic plan.

Contact us for personalized guidance and support to help determine the ideal mode of study. We will design a learning plan adapted to each student’s unique needs and personal circumstances.

Time Commitment & Support

Academeum's A Level courses offer a structured and enriching learning experience that blends scheduled teaching hours with independent study.

Scheduled Teaching Hours

Each week during semesters, students participate in four hours of live online seminars per A Level subject, typically divided into two sessions lasting around two-hours, with a short break in the middle.

Each academic year, students will benefit from 180 hours of expert-led instruction per subject. This unparalleled level of quality and quantity in teacher-student contact time surpasses what is typically offered, even by the most prestigious institutions.

Studying online eliminates the need for commuting, maximizing valuable learning time, while our use of technology enhances learning efficiency, organization, and time management. The aim is to make every precious hour count.

Independent Study

Independent study is essential for completing tests and assignments, consolidating knowledge, and mastering skills. While we recommend an average of three hours per week per subject, we understand that each student is unique.
Factors such as age, ability, prior learning, and whether a student is studying the subject at school in parallel can influence the amount of independent study required. It's not just the quantity, but the quality of study time that truly matters.

Vacations offer an excellent opportunity for students to strategically balance their workload. By dedicating extra time during vacations to independent study, especially over the summer, students can alleviate their workload during semesters. We also provide preparatory materials to ensure a strong start before each course commences.

For personalized guidance and recommendations, please contact us. We develop personalized learning plans for each of our students and keep them regularly under review to ensure continuous progress towards their goals.

Realistic Expectations

At Academeum, we believe in setting realistic expectations while highlighting the incredible rewards that come with dedication and hard work. We recognize that young people today have many choices about how to spend their time, and we want to help them make informed decisions that take into account their wellbeing, abilities, and future goals.

While A Levels require considerable commitment, the benefits of investing time in learning extend far beyond exam results. This is especially true when we consider the increasing competitiveness of university admissions and the rapidly evolving nature of the future job market, which is already being reshaped by automation and AI.

Our courses equip students with essential skills for university and their future careers, ensuring that they are not just prepared for the future but equipped to actively shape it.

These skills include:

  • Adaptability and Resilience: Thriving in a competitive environment, coping with challengers, and adapting to change.

  • Mental Agility: Thinking critically, problem-solving, and making informed decisions.

  • Focus and time management: Crucial for balancing multiple commitments and achieving goals efficiently.

  • Communication and Intercultural Awareness: Building strong relationships and collaborating effectively in international settings.

Supporting Success

At Academeum, success is about more than academic excellence. We understand that mental and physical wellbeing are essential not only for learning, but also for personal fulfillment and overall life satisfaction.
Effective learning happens when students are not only academically engaged and challenged, but also happy, thriving, and connected to a supportive network. Academeum's global community is a place where students feel connected, supported, and inspired to reach their full potential. Students from different countries connect, collaborate, and learn from one another.
We’re committed to supporting our students every step of the way. This includes one-on-one mentoring, expert guidance on time management and effective learning strategies, and resources for cultivating focus, managing stress, and developing healthy lifestyle habits.

A Level students can contact teachers and peers via seminar group chats, and both students and parents benefit from having a dedicated point of contact to access support whenever they need it. We enable students to learn together through through our peer-to-peer learning program and group projects, creating a collaborative and supportive learning environment.

Exam results matter, but the joy of learning is equally important. We encourage students to take learning beyond the classroom, forming clubs and societies based on shared interests, whether their purpose is academic, philanthropic, or just for fun.

One-to-one Tutorials

One-to-one Tutorial can be arranged to supplement the tuition offered in our A Level courses. These tutorials can focus on various areas, including mentoring, addressing individual academic needs, providing extra support for non-native English speakers, offering introductory courses for those preparing for A Level studies, and assisting with university entrance exams.

Beyond

Academic progress involves more than just dedicated study time; it requires mastering effective study techniques. Our Beyond program expands learning beyond the standard curriculum, equipping students with the essential skills and knowledge they need to succeed in their current and future studies.

Beyond includes classes in study skills, interdisciplinary learning, and critical thinking, designed to help students develop their skills across a wide range of areas.
